Anjana Joshi

Education: Anjana graduated magna cum laude from Brown University in 2009 with a B.A. in Middle East Studies and Religious Studies. She earned her master’s degree in Public Affairs from Brown University in 2010. In 2017, Anjana received a J.D. magna cum laude from the University of California, Irvine School of Law. While in law school, she was an executive board member and the notes editor of the UC Irvine Law Review, coordinated UCI Law’s chapter of the National Lawyers Guild, and received a pro bono achievement award for her hours of service.

 

Prior Experience: Before joining Kanji & Katzen, Anjana was a Senior Staff Attorney with the Economic Justice Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). As a civil rights attorney with SPLC from 2019–2025, she worked in partnership primarily with Black communities across the Deep South to foster and preserve land ownership, generational wealth, and housing stability through policy advocacy and litigation. She also worked to combat the criminalization of homelessness and other extractive fees, policies, and court systems that penalize people for living in poverty.

Anjana was a law clerk to the Honorable James L. Dennis of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit from 2017–2019. While in law school, she also interned for the Honorable John J. McConnell Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island and was an Ella Baker intern with the Center for Constitutional Rights. Prior to law school, Anjana spent four years as a research analyst at a plaintiffs’ firm specializing in complex, class-action litigation.

Personal Interests: Anjana lives in New Orleans, Louisiana and loves exploring the history and culture of the city and surrounding areas. She enjoys a good murder mystery novel and can also be found tending her garden, painting, trying new recipes, and catching up with friends.
